(24/11/2009, SPLM-DC) The SPLM-DC held a press conference today at its Secretariat headquarters in Arkweit, during which the SPLM-chairman Dr. Lam Akol presented evidence to the press of SPLM’s chairman’s attempt to deny the right of political freedom in Southern Sudan especially for SPLM-DC.

In a letter dated 9th November 2009, No. GOSS/DPA/PO/J/J.A.1, and addressed to all state Governors in Southern Sudan, the GoSS minister for Cabinet Affairs, Dr. Luka Tombekana Monoja, . wrote asking all state Governors to henceforth start cooperating with other Southern political parties except the SPLM-DC. Dr. Monoja claimed that he was writing on the directive of HE General Salva Kiir Mayardit, the FVP, of the Republic , President of GoSS and SPLM Chairman. Of course we always said that we have our own sources within the old SPLM and it was just a matter of time before we were forwarded the copy of the letter.

At the press conference SPLM-DC chairman asked the question? How cans another party claim to stop another party from carrying out its political activities as Dr. Monoja clearly stated in his letter?
This disregard of the constitution and undermining of the CPA and abuse of power by the SPLM cannot be allowed to continue without challenge and SPLM-DC will mount all the legal challenges available to support the democratic transformation in the Southern Sudan.
